Junior Council STEM Workshop

Kids ages 4–14 are invited to join the IAS Junior Council for a morning of hands-on science exploration. Students will rotate through five interactive stations, each led by a Junior Council member and designed to make science fun, approachable, and a little messy.
What to Expect: Five 20-minute stations, with transition time built in between rooms. An open activity area with Legos, coloring, and Magnet Tiles is also available for breaks or independent play.
- Elephant Toothpaste: Watch a big, foamy chemical reaction come to life with color and bubbles.
- Lava Lamps: Build a mini lava lamp using Alka-Seltzer and take it home.
- Chromatography: Use water and food coloring on coffee filters to see the hidden pigments that make up a color.
- DNA Bracelets: String beads to build a bracelet that models DNA base pairs, and take it home.
- Propellers: Build a simple propeller and learn the basics of motion and engineering. Take it home.
Cost: FREE for member families / $5 per family for non-members
Supervision: This is a parent-and-child event—please plan to stay with your kids throughout the duration of the event.
If cost is a barrier to attending, please reach out to Executive Director Liz Subrin at director@indianaacademyofscience.org. We want every family to be able to participate!
